Waterfowl at Trophy Country

Trophy Country is located in the Mississippi Flyway on the East Fork of the Chariton River.  In addition, we are in close proximity to Swan Lake, Thomas-Hill Reservoir, Long Branch Reservoir, Macon Lake, and Mark Twain Lake.  There are 400 acres of commercial fish farms, and a Missouri Department of Conservation waterfowl project adjacent to Trophy country.  This, in addition to the abundance of water on our own lakes, contribute to good flights of ducks and geese.  Many giant Canadian Geese call this property home.

In an additional commitment to the sport of hunting waterfowl, we have entered 2,400 acres in the Wetlands Reserve Program.  Waterfowl habitat as designed by state and federal authorities will be completed during the next three years.  A portion of this development will result in shooting areas of periodically flooded hardwood timber, which is quite unique for the upper portion of Missouri.

You are welcome to bring your own dog, decoys, and layouts.

We are in the North zone and the dates to waterfowl hunt are as follows:

Youth hunt: 10/22/06-10/23/06

Ducks: 10/29/06-12/27/06

Canvasbacks: 10/29/06-11/27/06

White-fronted Geese:  10/29/06-1/22/07

Snow/Blue/Ross's Geese:  10/29/06-1/29/07

Goose Bag Limit:

The daily bag and possession limits include no more than 20 blue, snow, or Ross's geese daily ( no possession limit), 1 brant daily (2 in possession), and 1 white-fronted goose daily (2 in possession).

Natural Bird Habitats Abound at Trophy Country

Wild and released quail, pheasant, and doves, as well as released chuckar constitute the upland bird shooting at Trophy Country.  2,200 acres of the 6,200 acre property are permitted acres for the release of quail, pheasant, and chuckar.  The size of this permitted area, natural habitat, and aesthetics make for challenging and exciting upland bird hunts.  The conservation agents tell us that the additional wetlands habitat which is being created will have a very positive effect on increasing the populations of wild birds.
